To-Do list

Since I've become more comfortable with my quilting abilities, I've added things to my ever-growing mental to-do list.  It's time to write it all down so I don't forget!  Lately I've been perusing Etsy for fabric scraps to make fun little projects since I don't have a large fabric/quilting/craft budget for the time being.  What a great selection!  I wish I'd thought of this before.

As I mentioned, my church quilt group makes quilts for the children in the oncology ward at the local hospital.  When I saw this adorable Alice in Wonderland fabric, I couldn't help buy smile and think this would be perfect to brighten up a little girl's day!  So, an Alice quilt has to be in my to-do list.

I've always been a Barbie girl and have to put a Barbie quilt on the list too.  I really like the modern black and pink prints like this:

I'm thinking of making a quilt for my brother, but haven't figured out what kind of fabric to use.  What do you think?  Any fabrics that you're dying to make into something fabulous?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm at my grandma's house, enjoying all the yummy food.  Hope you're doing the same!  Don't forget to check out the Purdue marching band leading the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!  Boiler up!

Review: Nearly New in OKC, OK

A coworker recently told me about a good consignment store in Oklahoma City, OK.  I read some reviews before setting out, and all of them were raving about how excellent it is.  When I arrived at the address, the place looked like an abandoned warehouse and I thought to myself, Pam, where in the world did you send me??  I was concerned to get out of my car, but I did, and I'm very glad of it!

Nearly New had a wide variety of middle to high end designer brands in a variety of prices.  I saw a pair of white satin Louboutin heels (not my size), a Chloe leather bag, an Armani bag, and lots of designer clothes.  I almost shouted with glee when I slipped on a pair of Chanel ballet flats that fit.  And at the ridiculously low price of $35, how could I pass them up?

It's hard to tell, but they're quilted!

Oklahoma wanderings, part 1

My dad came to visit me a few weekends ago and we went exploring rural Oklahoma.  Lots of red dirt!  We went to a place called Red Rock Canyon and hiked around a bit, then had a picnic lunch.  It was definitely an unusual geographic area.  When I think of canyons, I guess my mind goes straight to the Grand Canyon, which we visited when I was younger.  Not the same kind of canyon here in OK...

Anyway, on our hike we came across an armadillo that was rooting around in the brush.  We were only 10-15 feet away from it and I shot this little video.  My first encounter with a live armadillo!

On our travels, we also meandered past a herd of buffalo.  They mooed rather loudly at us.

There's more, but I've been trying to upload the rest of the pics for a few weeks now and it never lets me, so this is to be continued...

My current online obsession

I don't remember how I found this website, but I'm definitely hooked!  Remodelaholic has the most amazing projects for home decorating - I can't wait to try ALL of them!

The one that has me itching to go to the craft store first is the Pottery Barn inspired mosaic wall art.  When I first saw it, I thought it was glass tiles and would be expensive to recreate.  I said 'shut-the-front-door' when I discovered it was made from a piece of wood, a little paint & Modge Podge, and scrap book papers!  SO cheap.  I'm going to the store tonight to pick out papers and see if I can get an off cut or scrap of wood from Home Depot.  This is the perfect project for the big blank wall in my living room.  I'll use grey paint for the "mortar" and sea green papers with some pearly whites mixed in.  This project will be a nice break from my sewing machine :D

Don't hate me because...

I bought a J. Crew sweater for $0.40 yesterday.  Black, 100% cotton, v-neck, my size.  $0.40!!

jcrew.com

Or a Tory Burch black & white striped polo shirt for $2.00!

It was a good day at the thrift store :D  I could have bought the J. Crew cheetah print calf hair mocs that I've always wanted for $10, but they were a size to big (wah wah).  Maybe next time!
