Last night as I was rotary cutting some fabric for a charity quilt, I wasn't paying enough attention and rotary cut part of my left pointer finger tip right off - nail and all! I was quite shocked, as you may imagine. I don't have my new insurance coverage yet and my finger was spewing all over, so what is a girl to do? Call her daddy, who happens to be a veterinarian but lives 4 states away. After tight wrapping, ice, and multiple tylenol, I am doing better. I didn't have to go to the ER because I can't find the rest of my finger to reattach. It's definitely gruesome-looking and sore, but seems to be fairly superficial and will probably look normal after it's healed. The good news? There's not a drop of blood on the fabric I was cutting!
Anywho, this post is taking awhile to type, as you can imagine, so here's a pic of a quilt top I finished earlier this week. It is also a charity quilt, but not the one I shed blood for! The fabric is all from JoAnn. The pattern is a free download from Connecting Threads.
Keep your fingers clear of the edge! Happy sewing.
Oh no! I'm so sorry, yikes! Prayers and hugs for you. Your quilt top is charming and sweet, but I hope you have somebody close to give you some TLC while you heal.
Oh man, I nicked myself with the rotary cutter the first time I tried it. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as your experience, but now I definitely have a hate/hate relationship with it. :P How funny that none of it got on your quilt.
Your charity quilt top is just beautiful. Great work!
Hope you heal up with minimal issues, and quickly!
I did the same thing to my finger a couple of months ago! ouch! Now instead of having a nice rounded tip it's kind of a triangle shape. It seemed to take forever to heal so I hope yours heals faster. I miss the use of that little section of finger I use to have. Now everytime I cut something my body tightens up a little. I might get a klutz glove to use from now on. My heart goes out to you. So glad you didn't bleed on the fabric though! yeah!
Cute quilt! Love the cherries! Your injury sounds painful - hope you heal fast. And my husband never believes me when I tell him quilting can be dangerous. : ) Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday.

There's been a lot of finger slicing going on in blogland lately! Hope your finger is well soon.
I almost ordered the kit for that Connecting Theads pattern. Your interpretation looks great!
